We are looking for a professional and enthusiastic, seasonal BASE SUPERINTENDENT, to work full-time in our NorthDivision commencing for the 2018 road construction season.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Base Superintendent coordinates and supervises the completion of all required base and/or general contractor related activities to meet contractual requirements from the conceptual development stage, through to final construction. The Superintendent ensures that projects are completed on time and within budget.

  • Promote, execute and adhere to the company’s safety program. Oversee and moderate safety meetings. Implement safe work practices. Ensure all employees, sub-contractors and consultants have been properly orientated as per the company safety policy.
  • Oversee more than one base crew and project.
  • Allocate resources where appropriate to achieve project safety, schedule, cost, scope and quality objectives.
  • Ensure sufficient deployment and productivity of work crews.
  • Engage in open communication with Foremen, Divisional Safety Officers, Superintendents, Project Managers, Operations Managers and Division Managers and report any issues which could affect project plans.
  • Organize and coordinate the daily activities of all crew members, subcontractors, equipment and utilize corrective action to keep the project on time and on budget.
  • Read and interpret project plans and specifications.
  • Attend company designated training.
  • Monitor and manage employee attendance, ensuring the timely arrival and participation of all crew members, and notifying employees of rain days, prior to the start of the work.
  • Liaise between the company and employees on a variety of employee related matters.
  • Comply with relevant legislation regarding employee management, terminations and resignations.
  • Ensure consistent and fair application of the progressive disciplinary policy, as necessary.
  • Be able to accurately track quantities as per the measurement and payment clauses as defined within project contract and provide details to project manager.
  • Interact professionally with consultants, owners, members of the public.
  • Attend project meetings as required.
  • Complete required paperwork and coordinate submission to divisional office in a timely manner.
  • Other duties as required.
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred
  • Class 5 Drivers License
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience within the road construction industry.
  • 5 to 8 years’ experience in a supervisory capacity, preferably as a Base Superintendent or Foreman.
  • Knowledge of road construction methods, road construction materials and industry requirements including but not limited to; subgrade preparation, cement stabilized subgrade, granular base laydown, subgrade and base preparation for installation of concrete, adjustment of appurtenances, survey and layout.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 LBS on a regular basis.
  • Must comply with Drug and Alcohol, as well as Fitness Testing.
  • Willing to work out of town and in remote locations, as required.
  • Willing to work overtime, as required.
