We are currently seeking a PROJECT COORDINATOR or PROJECT MANAGER to work within our Fort McMurray Operation. Which role is filled will be dependent on the experience level of the successful candidate.
 
Reporting directly to the Area Manager, this position is responsible for communications and requests from the owner and/or consultant, subcontractors, Area Manager and Superintendents. The Project Coordinator/Manager monitors and communicates compliance and non-compliance of quality control measure for field processes to ensure workmanship quality and records are kept for projects.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Obtain, review and interpret tender specifications to determine project feasibility and job requirements.
  • Ensure all projects under their supervision meet or exceed the objectives of quality and profitability targets.
  • Attend and participate in onsite meetings with clients, owners, representatives, staff, sub trades, contractors and other project stakeholders.
  • Examine engineering reports to ensure quality control requirements are met, and apply appropriate corrective action when necessary.
  • Troubleshoot project concerns such as bad weather, scheduling conflicts, labour issues, contractor and/or client concerns and other unforeseeable matters.
  • Monitor and update project schedules.
  • Coordinate first calls, dig permits, job kickoffs and other related tasks.
  • Prepare and submit monthly progress estimates to ensure proper payments are received and made out.
  • Responsible for project file set up and activity cost coding, preparation and distribution of job packages to facilitate field operations, maintain safety and other project documentation in file.
  • Monitor sub-contractors for compliance, including review and enforcement of sub-contractor checklist (current utility locates, PPE, etc.) and report any violations to the Manager.
  • Responsible for supporting and leading all aspects of the company safety program and regulations. This includes completing formal safety inspections and reports as required.
  • Ensure sub-contractor performing their scope of work to design standards and specifications.
  • Acts as a company representative at all site meetings and as a point of contact for field level questions regarding a project.
  • Project estimating responsibilities as required including maintaining tendered and negotiated changes.
  • Maintain an accurate project budget with regard to change orders.
  • Must ensure a solid understanding of, and comply with the principles of the company’s Code of Ethics.
  • Must examine situations in light of the principles of the Code of Ethics.
  • Perform duties safely around mobile equipment and have a high sense of safety awareness while performing work.
  • Other related duties as required.
 
REQUIREMENTS/EXPERIENCE
 
  • Minimum 2 – 3 year Technical Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from a recognized post-secondary institution, or equivalent.
  • CET certification and/or PMP designation are preferred.
  • Class 5 Drivers License.             
  • 2 or more years’ experience in civil construction, preferably in Operations or Quality Control.
  • Effective leadership skills, with a strong focus on operations and business processes.
  • Must comply with Drug and Alcohol testing requirements.
  • Availability to work both out-of-town and remote locations.
  • Ability to work overtime hours as required.
